The unseen workings of an unseen God

Too often in this life I find that we are fascinated by the miraculous. Granted, there is nothing wrong with being intrigued and moved to a greater love for our God by it, but wwe tend to elevate those things which are “obvious” workings of God and of a supernaturally miraculous nature to a level which should make us wary of its potential as becoming idolatrous in its position in our own hearts.

We are quick to see a history of the obvious working of God, and then in every circumstance, assume that we know how he is functioning in the ins and outs of our lives. We become assumptuous and presumptous of not only the nature of the working of God, but also of the intent of his working. How we are not to do this (see Job 38-40), for who are we to say that we understand the mind of God. Often, our loving Father will work in ways beyond which we can see or understand simply to draw us nearer to him.

  1. Whereas I’m taken aback that we’re surprised at all… shouldn’t we expect great things from God?

  2. Since we have been created by God to worshhip and praise Him–to simply be near Him-in a way it is sad that He needs to constantly “work in ways beyond which we can see or understand simply to draw us nearer to Him”. On the other hand, He desires so much for us to BE near Him, to worship Him with our whole beings, to praise Him–is it any wonder He works through that which we can’t see or understand? Much as our earthly parents work to better our lives, just because of who they are and who we are, He is able to do in greater abundance!! Thank you, Grant, for helping me to think of things that seem too obvious for words!!!

  3. Nice blog!
