Wondering…

Without going into extensive detail, I have been thinking much.

One of the things that I have been considering: For whose glory do you live?

Something to ponder…

For now…

The unseen workings of an unseen God

•February 14, 2007 • 3 Comments

Too often in this life I find that we are fascinated by the miraculous. Granted, there is nothing wrong with being intrigued and moved to a greater love for our God by it, but wwe tend to elevate those things which are “obvious” workings of God and of a supernaturally miraculous nature to a level which should make us wary of its potential as becoming idolatrous in its position in our own hearts.

We are quick to see a history of the obvious working of God, and then in every circumstance, assume that we know how he is functioning in the ins and outs of our lives. We become assumptuous and presumptous of not only the nature of the working of God, but also of the intent of his working. How we are not to do this (see Job 38-40), for who are we to say that we understand the mind of God. Often, our loving Father will work in ways beyond which we can see or understand simply to draw us nearer to him.

…be slow to speak….

…be quick to listen…

…be slow to jump to conclusions….

…be eager to be still before the throne of God to hear his voice…

I am frustrated that I find it too easy to fail to live out Colossians 3:23, in mutliple areas…

“Whatever you do, work heartily for the Lord and not for men….”

May we never cease to live for the things which are not only eternal, but in such a way that our hearts’ attitudes and actions are pleasing to our Lord, and to him alone.

The Pursuit…

What is it that we pursue? What do we spend our time thinking on, striving after, seeking to spend time dwelling on? What reins in our hearts (spelling intentional)?

Are these things such that we would be comfortable thinking on them, dwelling on them if we knew that Christ was physically in our presence? The reality is that he is. Does that change our perspective? It should.

Back to the Basics

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but I figured that inquiring minds would love to know…

Here’s a snippet of what’s been happening since Christmas Concerts:

  • Finals week – by the graciousness of our God, I was able to pass all my classes with good grades
  •  Hanging out and leading worship with some good friends at a Youth Event in Palmdale (Greg Clark, Ryan Mann, John Glass & Jeff Lewis)
  • Arriving in FREEEZIING Spokane, WA, my new home… I think that I am finally beginning to grow accustomed to the temperatures…. fewer and fewer layers!
  • Spending some great time with the family and the Lord
  • Working on recital music for April 24
  • Getting a job… presently selling Cutco knives, and interviewing for an inventory position today later

I have been reading through The Pursuit of God  by A.W. Tozer, and this has challenged me as of late, I pray the same for you also:

There can be no doubt that this possessive clinging to things is one of the most harmful habits in the life. Because it is so natural it is rarely recognized for the evil that it is; but its outworkings are tragic. We are often hindered from giving up our treasures to the Lord out of fear for their safety; this is especially true when those treasures are loved relatives and friends. But we need have no such fears. Our Lord came not to destroy but to save. Everything is safe which we commit to Him, and nothing is really safe which is not so committed.

Our gifts and talents should also be turned over to Him. They should be recognized for what they are, God’s loan to us, and should never be considered in any sense our own. We have no more right to claim credit for special abilities than for blue eyes or strong muscles. `For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive?’

The Christian who is alive enough to know himself even slightly will recognize the symptoms of this possession malady, and will grieve to find them in his own heart. If the longing after God is strong enough within him he will want to do something about the matter.

It’s Done! well, that’s it. No more Christmas Concerts for Grantley… a good week of concerts, but tiring. The Lord is good!

The Creativity of our God

•November 16, 2006 • 1 Comment

For the past two days and a total of six hours, I have been deep in the realms of musical composition… perhaps deeper than I have been before. On Tuesday, I was asked to score the prologue for this year’s ComeChristmas Sing! concert series at the college… for full orchestra. The premise was to score two minutes of “mood music” that would be set to film in the next week; the ball really did not start going until our Lord allowed me to read Isaiah 64.

The first verse is enough to make one stand in awe…

“Oh that you would rend the heavens and come down,
that the mountains might quake at your presence—”

What a creative God, to put himself in the form of a man to minister to and redeem those who have rejected Him since their creation, spat in his face and sinned against him! O the unsearchable depths of his wisdom in such a great plan. The author of all creativity began his work, his greatest depth of work in creativity before even the dawn of time as we comprehend it. The prophets foretold it, 12 men witnessed it personally, countless have died as testimony to it, and I get to write about it.

Praise the Creator for his great depth and creativity in sending his Son to Earth for His glory!
